Hello all that visit this website! I'm a first generation college graduate that is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Northwest Missouri State University. Previously, I was a Full Time Instructor at the University of Alabama and adjunct instructor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
In March of 2024, I successfully defended my dissertation "The Impact of Disasters on Politics: How Resilience Influences Disaster Requests and Voting in Communities.” Currently, I am working on producing this dissertation into journal articles.
My research interests focuses on state politics in the United States. More specifically, I am interested in gubernatorial politics and how governors utilize disaster policies.
When I'm not teaching or studying, I have a variety of activities. First and foremost is being a father and husband. I'm an avid movie watcher so if you ever need a recommendation let me know. I also have several hobbies like hiking, video games, and learning to play the saxophone.
I am always interested in opportunities to collaborate on research. You can contact me at mthomas@nwmissouri.edu or find me on BlueSky below.
